Because of my different trainings and extensive experience I offer both short term and long term therapy.

I have 20 years clinical experience gained in a variety of settings - including relationship, student and workplace counselling as well as private practice. This has given me in-depth experience of working with a broad range of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, self belief, confidence, addiction and self harm. I have also worked with many clients of differing ages, genders, ethnicities, sexualities, abilities/disabilities, nationalities and socio-cultural backgrounds.

My training began with an evening course in Counselling and Communication Skills I attended when my children were young, thinking this would benefit the pastoral element of my role when I returned to teaching. However, I was so impressed by the potential I saw in counselling that I wanted to find out more. I applied for training with Relate and worked as a volunteer whilst training. Once I had qualified and become a Relate Counsellor and Trainer I knew this was the direction for me and embarked on advanced training.

I chose Transactional Analysis because I found it inspirational. I was excited about how it helped me make sense of the world and human interactions. Talking to others I realised how accessible it was - providing a language and ideas so aptly describing all kinds of common human behaviours and strategies, easily understandable to all. It also complemented the theoretical models I had already studied - filling the gaps in my own understanding of human behaviour. But what struck me most was how this approach went beyond understanding and focused on change; increasing our understanding doesn’t automatically mean change just happens -  we need to use our new self knowledge and awareness to decide things are going to be different and make things change. And we need to overcome the obstacles that so often prevent us changing, no matter how badly we want to.

After 4 years of advanced training in TA, I became a Certified Transactional Analyst and achieved an MSc in Psychotherapy. Since then I have maintained an interest in TA and combined it with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and other approaches. I have also extended my skill set with trainings in Supervision, Mediation and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.
